MeWe
Publish to your MeWe timeline or your MeWe groups with text and pictures. What to register in MeWe's developer program.
Staqly publishes to MeWe through MeWe's Open API (a developer preview): the person signs in on
mewe.com, and staqly posts to their own timeline (POST /api/dev/me/post) or to one of their groups
(POST /api/dev/group/{groupId}/post), with pictures uploaded first. Each timeline or group is its
own channel. A published target links to the timeline or the group: MeWe's API does not say the new
post's address.
What you need
A MeWe app of the Standalone type, registered once per server. MeWe's developer program is
a beta with limited places: MeWe reviews who joins and reviews each app. Its keys go into the
server's environment (.env), the same way locally and in the cloud (see
Developer apps); a workspace can also use its own app.
Join the developer program and create the app
Sign in at dev.mewe.com/developer with a MeWe account and apply to become a developer. Once MeWe approves you, create an application:
| Where | What |
|---|---|
| Type | Standalone |
| Permissions | user_profile (read the person), user_groups (list their groups and post to them), post_content (post and upload pictures) |
| Redirect URI | your dashboard's /channels/callback/mewe, for example http://localhost:8080/channels/callback/mewe locally or https://staqly.example.com/channels/callback/mewe |
Copy the App ID and the API key from the app's developer settings.
Give staqly the keys
Put them in the server's environment and restart it:
PROVIDER_MEWE_CLIENT_ID=your-app-id
PROVIDER_MEWE_CLIENT_SECRET=your-api-key- Docker:
docker run ... --env-file .env ghcr.io/staqly/staqly:latest, or-e PROVIDER_MEWE_CLIENT_ID=.... - Binary: export both in your shell, then run
staqly serveorstaqly service install(the service keepsPROVIDER_*settings).
Until both are set, MeWe shows as soon in Channels → Add channel.
PROVIDER_MEWE_ENABLED=false hides it altogether.
Connect the timeline or groups
Connect with MeWe opens mewe.com, where the person signs in and allows the app. Staqly then lists your timeline and every group you belong to; pick one or more, and each becomes its own channel. Connecting the same timeline or group again reconnects the existing channel.
Reconnecting
MeWe's sign-in has an end date and MeWe offers no way to renew it. When it runs out, the channel turns Needs reconnect (an alert can tell you): open the row's menu and reconnect it.
Limits
| Text | 5,000 characters |
| Media | up to 4 pictures per post; MeWe's API takes no videos |
Comments
MeWe's API does not return the new post's id and has no way to comment, so a post's thread is not sent on MeWe.
When publishing fails
| MeWe says | Staqly does |
|---|---|
| The sign-in expired or was revoked (401) | Marks the channel Needs reconnect and fails the target; reconnect it from the row's menu |
| Rate limit (420 "Enhance Your Calm", 429) or MeWe unavailable (5xx) | Retries through the job queue (after 1, 5, then 15 minutes) |
| A missing app permission (403, it names the permission), a group you may not post in, a group you left (404) | Fails the target with MeWe's reason; add the permission to the app, or reconnect |
MeWe has no way to recognize a post sent twice. When its answer is lost, staqly does not post again and fails the target asking you to check the timeline or group first.
