Media

The media library: upload pictures, videos and files once, organize them in folders and tags, describe them and use them in any post.

Edit on GitHub

Media in the sidebar is the workspace's library of uploaded files: every picture, video and file you or your agents uploaded, including the ones added with Insert media in a post.

Upload

  • Click Upload, drop files anywhere on the page, or paste a picture (a screenshot, a copied image). Several files go up at once, each with its own progress.
  • Pictures (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF), videos (MP4, WebM, MOV) and audio (MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A) are accepted; documents, archives, SVG and HTML are not.
  • A file over your plan's size limit, or of a type that isn't accepted, is refused before it uploads, with the reason ("Too big: 3.1 GB. Your plan takes files up to 1 GB."). See Limits for sizes and storage per plan.
  • Pictures are measured on upload. For a video, the browser that uploads it reads its size and length and stores them with the file.

Find

The page has two parts: the library sidebar on the left, the files on the right. On a phone the sidebar opens in a sheet from the button beside the search.

  • Library: All files, Recents (uploaded in the last 7 days), Images, Videos, Audio, Unused (no post uses them), Duplicates (shown when identical files exist) and Deleted.
  • Folders: click a folder to see the files in it. Arrow keys move through the tree, Right and Left open and close a folder, Enter shows it. + on the Folders header creates a folder.
  • Tags: click a tag to see the files that carry it. The tag, the place and the search combine.
  • Search by file name and sort by newest, oldest, largest or name.

Each tile shows the picture, the video's first frame and length, or an icon, and how many posts use the file. Click a tile to open it; arrow keys move between tiles, Enter opens one.

Folders and tags

Folders only organize the library: a file stays in every post that uses it, wherever it sits.

  • With a folder open, the ... beside the title has New folder inside, Rename, Move to... and Delete folder. Deleting a folder asks first and moves its files and folders up a level; no file is deleted.
  • Move files by dragging them onto a folder in the sidebar (all selected files when you drag a selected one), onto All files to take them out of every folder, with Move to folder in the action bar, or with Folder in the file's drawer. Drag a folder onto another to move it there.
  • Tag a file in its drawer, or select files and use Tags to add or remove tags on all of them. Tags are spelled like post tags: #Summer Sale becomes summer-sale.

Upload progress

Uploads show in a small card at the bottom right, with progress and Cancel per file; a file that fails stays there with the reason, Retry and Dismiss. When everything is up, the card goes away and a message names the file (or the number of files), with Show. A file whose exact content is already in the library is uploaded anyway, and a message says which file has it.

A file's drawer

Click a tile to open it:

  • the preview, the same size for every file, on a checkerboard so transparent pictures read well (tiny pictures are enlarged pixel by pixel); click it to see the picture full screen;
  • one line of facts: type, size, pixels, shape, length and when it was uploaded (hover for the exact time), and In 2 posts, which jumps to the posts that use it;
  • New post with this, Download, and ... with Copy file ID;
  • Name, Alt text (describes a picture or video for people who can't see it; platforms that take a description receive it), Tags and Folder;
  • Where it fits, folded to one line ("Fits 3 of 11 places"); open it for each placement per platform (Instagram feed and Reels, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest...) with Fits or how much it crops;
  • Used in: the posts that carry the file, with their status.

Save changes and Close are at the bottom right, Delete file at the bottom left.

Several files at once

Hover a tile and tick the box in its top right corner (on a phone the box is always there); Shift selects a range and Cmd/Ctrl+A every tile. An action bar appears at the bottom: Move to folder, Tags, New post (a carousel), Download, Edit (pictures) and Delete. Esc or the X clears the selection.

Deleted

Delete file (and Delete in the action bar) moves files to Deleted, with Undo for a few seconds. Files stay there for 30 days, then they are deleted for good; each tile says when. Until then they still count toward your storage. In Deleted, Restore puts a file back where it was, Delete forever removes it now (posts that use it lose it), and Empty Deleted removes everything there. A file that a scheduled post uses can't be deleted: remove it from that post first. A file in Deleted can't be added to a post, and a post that still carries one can't be scheduled or published: restore the file first. Deleting needs the posts:delete scope.

Duplicates

Duplicates lists files with exactly the same content, one set per header ("3 copies · 24 KB each"), each tile with its folder and how many posts use it. Keep one keeps the oldest copy: posts that use another copy use the kept one instead, and the other copies move to Deleted.

Use in posts

  • New post with this opens the composer with the file attached; New post in the action bar starts one with every selected picture and video.
  • In the composer, From library next to Insert media picks uploaded pictures and videos without uploading them again; it works for the post and for each comment.

Media IDs (med_...) stay the same for the life of a file, so anything that takes media later can refer to library files by ID.
